Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman is set to suffer a major financial setback after being released by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) well ahead of the IPL season. The left-arm seamer was bought for ₹9.20 crore at the mini-auction following a bidding war involving Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals.
Despite the high-value contract, Mustafizur will not receive any compensation, even though the circumstances leading to his release were beyond his control.
Why KKR owe no compensation under IPL rules
As per a PTI report, IPL player salaries are insured only under limited conditions. For overseas players, franchises are obligated to compensate them primarily in cases of injury sustained after joining the team camp or during the tournament.
Mustafizur’s release, driven by off-field and political considerations, does not fall under these insurance clauses, leaving KKR under no contractual obligation to pay him.
BCB refuses India travel for T20 World Cup
In the aftermath of Mustafizur’s IPL exit, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has taken a firm position, announcing that the national team will not travel to India for their scheduled T20 World Cup matches, citing concerns over player safety. Bangladesh were due to play three matches in Kolkata during the tournament co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Political unrest casts shadow over cricket ties
These developments have unfolded amid heightened political tensions and reports of widespread violence in Bangladesh, including attacks targeting Hindu minorities, impacting bilateral sports participation.
