Op Sindoor: Army chief outlines 2 turning points that pushed Pak towards ceasefire

Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi on Tuesday detailed the key moments that led Pakistan to seek a ceasefire during India’s Operation Sindoor last year, describing the brief conflict as a textbook example of tri-service coordination under clear political direction.

Addressing the Army’s annual press conference in New Delhi, General Dwivedi said India’s success rested on two critical turning points.

The first, he explained, was the 22-minute precision strike carried out in the early hours of May 7, when Indian forces hit nine terror camps inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

“That 22-minute strike completely bewildered the decision-making cycle of the opposite side,” the Army chief said, noting that the attacks created chaos across the border.

While Pakistan attempted retaliation using drones, missiles and other means, India responded in a calibrated manner, choosing not to escalate further as its military objectives had been achieved.

The second turning point, Dwivedi said, came on the morning of May 10, when the three services were given “certain orders” in case the conflict widened. Without disclosing details, he said Pakistan became aware, through satellite imagery of Indian naval and air force movements and concluded it was in its interest to halt hostilities.
