Fresh satellite imagery reviewed by NDTV suggests that Pakistan has begun reconstruction work at the Nur Khan airbase, which sustained heavy damage during India’s Operation Sindoor strikes in May this year.
Located less than 25 km from Islamabad, Nur Khan is one of Pakistan’s most strategic airbases, housing vital assets such as Saab Erieye early warning systems, C-130 transporters and IL-78 refueling aircraft.
On May 10, the Indian Air Force launched precision missile strikes on the facility, destroying two specialised trucks believed to be linked with drone command and control, along with inflicting collateral damage to nearby structures.
Imagery from May showed the complete destruction of the targeted vehicles and adjoining complexes. By mid-May, the debris had been cleared, and the latest visuals from September 3 reveal new walls and fresh construction at the site.
Geo-intelligence expert Damien Symon noted that several damaged structures were dismantled due to compromised systems and wiring failures, with Pakistan now rebuilding the complex.
The strike on Nur Khan was seen as a significant tactical move, targeting an airbase central to Pakistan’s air mobility and surveillance operations, while also carrying symbolic weight given its proximity to the army’s headquarters.
