PM Modi launches Mahi Banswara nuclear power project in Rajasthan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth over ₹1.22 lakh crore in Banswara, Rajasthan.

Among these, the highlight was the launch of the Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (4×700 MW), developed by Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Ltd (ASHVINI) at an investment of about ₹42,000 crore.

The project, one of the largest nuclear plants in India, is designed to provide affordable, reliable, and sustainable base load energy.

Built with advanced safety features, it comprises four indigenous 700 MW Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) developed by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL).

The plant is part of India’s “fleet mode” initiative, which aims to construct ten identical 700 MW reactors across the country under a uniform design and procurement strategy.

This approach is expected to lower costs, ensure faster execution, and strengthen India’s nuclear energy capabilities while promoting environmental sustainability.
