Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday launched a sharp attack on the opposition in the state Assembly, referring to “two namoone” who, he claimed, leave the country whenever serious national issues arise.
Though he did not name anyone, the remark was seen as a swipe at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
Adityanath made the comment while responding to allegations by the SP over an alleged illegal trade in codeine-based cough syrup, dismissing the charges as politically motivated.
Reacting strongly, Akhilesh Yadav said the chief minister’s statement amounted to an open admission of internal rifts within the BJP.
Speaking in the Assembly and later on social media, the former chief minister said the Delhi-Lucknow reference reflected a power struggle between the BJP’s central leadership and its state unit.
Calling it a “self-acceptance”, Yadav said it was surprising that such divisions were now being acknowledged publicly.
