The Ministry of External Affairs on Friday expressed grave concern over the killing of a Hindu man in Bangladesh amid growing political and social uncertainty in the neighbouring country.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal condemned the lynching of 27-year-old Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh, calling it a “gruesome” incident and stressing that those responsible must be brought to justice.
Jaiswal said India was closely monitoring developments in Bangladesh and noted with concern the “unremitting hostility” against minorities.
He reiterated that India’s position on Bangladesh has been clear and consistent, emphasising support for peace, stability and strong people-to-people ties.
The MEA’s remarks come against the backdrop of heightened political churn, including the return of BNP leader Tarique Rahman, which has added to uncertainties in the country.
Jaiswal underlined that India supports free, fair, inclusive and participatory elections in Bangladesh, while urging the protection of minority rights and rule of law.
