ED moves SC alleging Mamata’s interference in I-PAC raids

Following the raids conducted at the I-PAC office earlier this year, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday has moved to the Apex court, alleging interference and obstruction by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

According to the agency, Mamata-led government interfered during the search operations linked to the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), a political consultancy firm associated with the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). The agency has sought directions for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter.

The plea stems from ED searches conducted at I-PAC’s headquarters in Kolkata and at the residence of its director, Pratik Jain, as part of a money-laundering investigation.

According to the ED, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived at the I-PAC office during the raid, questioned the legality of the operation and allegedly intervened by entering the premises and taking custody of certain documents.

The agency has claimed that such actions disrupted its statutory functions and amounted to obstruction of a central investigation.
