B’desh to resume direct flights to Pak amid strained ties with India

As reported by PTI, Bangladesh is set to take another step towards improving ties with Pakistan with the resumption of direct air connectivity between the two countries after more than a decade.

National carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines will launch non-stop flights between Dhaka and Karachi from January 29, according to media reports.

Initially, the airline will operate two flights a week, on Thursdays and Saturdays. The Dhaka–Karachi flight is scheduled to depart at 8 pm local time and arrive at 11 pm, while the return flight will leave Karachi at midnight and reach Dhaka at 4.20 am.

Direct flights between Bangladesh and Pakistan were last operated in 2012 and had remained suspended amid strained bilateral relations. Bilateral ties between the two nations have improved significantly following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in Bangladesh in August 2024.

However, it remains unclear whether the flights will use Indian airspace, as no confirmation has been issued on overflight clearance from New Delhi.
