Ransomware attack cripples Airports in UK, Germany and Belgium

A ransomware attack has disrupted airport operations in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Belgium, the EU Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) confirmed on Monday. Authorities are investigating the attack, though the source of the malware has not been revealed.

The breach began Friday night and targeted automated check-in systems built by Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of RTX. The outage left thousands of passengers stranded and forced staff to switch to manual check-in methods.

Brussels Airport said laptops and iPads were being used to process passengers, but 60 out of 550 scheduled flights on Monday had to be cancelled. Berlin Brandenburg Airport remained unable to restore its check-in systems, causing departures to run over an hour late. London’s Heathrow also faced delays.

Collins Aerospace stated it is in the final stages of updating systems and restoring full functionality. Cybersecurity experts said ransomware groups are increasingly targeting high-profile organizations to draw global attention, though such large-scale disruptions are still rare.
