BJP and TMC clash over Kolkata floods

With Kolkata reeling under heavy rains, leaving large parts of the city submerged and taking lives of at least 7 people due to electrocution, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) are engaging in political confrontations.

Images of videos of flooded streets of Kolkata were posted on official BJP social media handles accusing the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) for failing to manage the city’s drainage system,

BJP accused the TMC-run civic body of rampant corruption, alleging that funds meant for infrastructure had been siphoned off.

The TMC hit back, accusing the BJP of “weaponising pain to spread hate” and exploiting a natural disaster for political gain.

Party leaders defended the KMC’s efforts, highlighting the intensity of the rainfall and claiming that emergency teams were working around the clock.

The political blame game added fuel to public anger, as citizens continued to struggle with waterlogging and power outages across Kolkata.
