Nitish Kumar to take oath as Bihar CM on Nov 20, BJP appoints observers

Bihar is gearing up for a major political transition as JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar is expected to take oath as chief minister on Thursday, November 20, following the NDA’s sweeping victory in the Bihar assembly elections

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with several chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from NDA-ruled states, is scheduled to attend the ceremony at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan.

According to JD(U) sources, Kumar will be elected legislature party leader on Wednesday, November 19, a day after he met Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and recommended the dissolution of the current assembly.

Preparations for the swearing-in are already in full swing at Gandhi Maidan.

The BJP has appointed Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya as the central observer for electing the party’s legislative leader, with Union Ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal and Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti assisting as co-observers.

In the new cabinet, the NDA is considering allocating one ministerial berth for every six MLAs, ensuring representation for allies including LJP(RV), HAM(S) and RLM.

The NDA secured 202 of 243 seats, with the BJP emerging as the single largest party with 89 seats. Meanwhile, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has been chosen as Leader of the Opposition after the Mahagathbandhan suffered a major setback in the polls.
